Anthony’s grandmother, Lillian or better known as Granny. She inspired Anthony to do the right thing.

From the book, ‘A Soul to Care’

Granny - I was born in 1926. You have no idea what my kind has experienced in this country. I was not allowed to go to college down here. I had to go way to Kentucky to attend school. My kind was beaten, raped, lynched, and jailed just for standing up for the decency right to be treated as human beings. My kind your kind are Negroes. Meaning that every knee should grow. Every generation should be better than the last generation.

Anthony’s nursing mentor, Dr. Gale Woolley.

From the book, ‘A Soul to Care’

Dr. Gale Woolley - Nursing school teaches you the skills and knowledge needed to become a nurse, but we cannot teach you how to care. We can provide you with the definition of empathy, but we cannot teach you how to care. In nursing, you will learn that nurses are born and not made.
